Developing by Inspection
Digital negatives that come out right
because they were measured.
Developing by Inspection builds software for digital negatives, fine-art print layout, and printer profiling. Each tool measures how your printer, ink, paper, and process actually behave, then corrects, soft-proofs, and prints from that measurement — with no manual curve editing anywhere in the workflow.
Two families, one engineering core
Which one do you need?
Tirage is the accessible path and runs on standard printer drivers. QuadToneProfiler is the QuadToneRIP path with full calibration control. Both are built on the same measurement engine and share the same profile format.
Tirage
Digital negative software, print layout, and color profiling for photographers using standard Epson and Canon drivers. Curves stay out of your way unless you ask to see them.
QuadToneProfiler
QuadToneRIP calibration and linearization with full control over
.quad files, ink limits, and partitioning — for photographers who
want every parameter in reach.
The approach
What makes the result predictable
You never touch a curve by hand
The software measures your printed step wedge, builds the correction, and applies it. There is no step where you are handed a curve to reproduce somewhere else.
Measured, not modeled
Correction comes from the density your printer, ink, paper, and process actually produced — not from an idealized equation fitted to a few control points.
Honest soft-proofing
The preview shows the real measured density range you will get. What the print cannot do, the proof will not show you.
Works with the printer you already have
Standard Epson and Canon drivers are fully supported. QuadToneRIP is an option for those who want it, never a requirement.

Why it is called that
Developing by inspection
Before development by time and temperature became standard, large-format photographers developed film by inspection — working under a dim green safelight, looking at the negative as it came up, and pulling it when it was right. It is a practice of judging the actual result in front of you rather than trusting a number that describes it.
That is the same argument this software makes. Measure the print you actually got. Correct from that. Show an honest proof of what the process can hold.
